The woman who barks by herself*

Why have a dog and bark yourself?
-What is there possibly to gain?
‘Tis a curious reflection on How Life Is
And potentially insane…

Why have a dog and bark yourself?
It can’t be strategically clever…
Who’s going to throw the ball to you
If you’re chasing your tail for ever and ever…?

Why have a dog and bark yourself?
Is there something in the basic appeal
Of growling on about your lot
Without pausing to think how it feels?

Why have a dog and bark yourself?
Is it because you mistrust?
Do you question your team’s capability
Or just fear you’re not that robust?

Why have a dog and bark yourself?
What might happen if you ceased?
-Trusted others to share the load
And permitted yourself the peace..?
